Things to consider when buying bulk beef:

Better Planet, Better Beef...

Buying bulk beef is not only a smart choice for your wallet and health, but it's also a way to make a positive impact on the planet. By buying in bulk, you're supporting sustainable farming practices that promote biodiversity, reduce carbon emissions, and conserve natural resources. Additionally, when you buy in bulk, you're helping to reduce food waste by using all the cuts, organs, and bones of the animal, and by freezing unused portions for later use.

Buying from local farms and ranches such as Our Ancestors’ Foods also reduces the carbon footprint of transportation, as the meat doesn't have to travel as far to get to your table. Furthermore, it helps to promote ethical and humane treatment of animals, as farmers prioritize the welfare of their livestock, providing them with space to roam and access to nutritious food and water.

Every time you buy bulk beef from a trusted local farmer, you're contributing to a more sustainable and ethical food system that benefits both the environment and your health. So, go ahead and make the smart choice to buy bulk beef today, and help to make the world a better place, one meal at a time.

Explain to me the process of bulk beef buying...

he process of buying bulk beef typically involves the following steps:

  1. Determine the amount of beef you want to purchase: Bulk beef typically refers to purchasing a larger quantity of beef at once, typically an entire animal or a portion (share) of an animal. At Our Ancestors’ Foods, our minimum purchase amount is a 1/8 share of beef, which is approximately 40 pounds of beef.
  2. Place your order: Once you've decided how much beef you want to purchase, you'll need to place your order. You can do this online through our secured check out on our website. We require a 30% deposit when you place your order, and the remaining balance is due at the time of delivery.
  3. Arrange for delivery or pickup: Once your order is ready, you can either arrange to pick it up from us or have it delivered to your home. We offer both pickup and delivery options for our bulk beef orders.
  4. Store your beef: Once you've received your beef, you'll need to store it properly to ensure that it stays fresh. We recommend storing it in a freezer that maintains a temperature of 0°F or below, and using the oldest beef in your freezer first to ensure that you're getting the freshest meat possible.
  5. Enjoy your beef: Finally, it's time to enjoy your bulk beef! Whether you're grilling steaks or making a hearty beef stew, you can feel good about knowing that you're eating high-quality, sustainably-raised meat that's good for both you and the planet.

Overall, the process of buying bulk beef is straightforward and can be a great way to save money while supporting sustainable farming practices and enjoying delicious, high-quality meat. If we left anything out, send us an email at info@ourancestorsfoods.com and we will get back to you with an answer as soon as we can!

How to properly store your meat- Guide

Proper storage of frozen meats is important to maintain their quality and safety. Here are some guidelines for storing frozen meats:

Wrap meat properly: It's important to wrap the meat tightly in freezer paper or plastic wrap before freezing it. This will prevent freezer burn and help the meat maintain its flavor and texture. All our meats come in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag in order to offer the longest shelf life to the products.

Label and date the meat: It's important to label the meat with the date of freezing so that you can keep track of how long it has been frozen. This will help you ensure that you use the meat within the recommended timeframe. All our meats have a USDA label placed by our processor identifying the cut and date of packaging.

Store meat in the coldest part of the freezer:
The proper temperature to store frozen beef is at or below 0°F (-18°C). Storing beef at this temperature will prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and ensure that the beef remains safe to eat for an extended period of time.
It's important to note that the temperature of your freezer can vary depending on the location of the beef within the freezer. The coldest part of the freezer is typically at the back, so it's best to store the beef in this area to ensure that it stays at the proper temperature, and stays frozen all the time, so it maintains its quality. The coldest part of the freezer is typically at the back, so store your meat there.
It's important to monitor the temperature of your freezer, so it's a good idea to use a freezer thermometer (we recommend protecting your frozen meat investment with a purchase of a Bluetooth freezer thermometer temperature sensor with Max/Min temperature monitoring, which will allow you to read freezer temperature without opening the door and keep the freezer temperature constant). This will allow you to ensure that the temperature is consistently at or below 0°F (-18°C). If you notice that the temperature is higher than this, it's important to investigate and address the issue, as it could impact the safety and quality of your frozen beef.

Use meat within recommended timeframe: The recommended timeframe for frozen meat varies depending on the type of meat. Generally, beef, pork, lamb, and veal can be stored in the freezer for up to 12 months.

Remember to always thaw meat safely by either placing it in the refrigerator or using the defrost setting on your microwave (we do not recommend this method of thawing). Never thaw meat at room temperature, as this can allow harmful bacteria to grow.

How long after thawing is the meat good for?
Beef: When it comes to steaks or roasts, if the original packaging is sealed tight, it can remain in the refrigerator for almost two weeks. However, outside of its packaging or if the packaging is torn, beef is good for 3-5 days once defrosted in the refrigerator. Ground beef is a little different. It stays fresh for 1-2 days in the fridge once it defrosts.

Pork: The rules for pork also differ depending on the cut. Large pork cuts (roasts, pork butt) that come in a strong, vacuum-sealed package will remain good for up to two weeks defrosted in the refrigerator, like steaks. Small cuts of pork that are individually cut, packed, vacuum-sealed, and remain in their original packaging will stay fresh for 3-5 days. But if the original packaging seal is broken or if you've removed it from its original packaging, it will only stay fresh for 1-2 days if defrosted in the refrigerator.

A little about buying beef shares...

When it comes to the food we eat, we all want to make the best choices for our health and our families. That's why buying bulk grass-fed beef is such a smart choice.

Yes, there is a bigger upfront cost when you buy a larger share of grass-fed beef. But when you break down the price per pound, you'll see that you're actually saving money in the long run. Plus, you're investing in your health and wellbeing by choosing a leaner, healthier source of protein that is free from hormones, antibiotics, and harmful additives.

Buying in bulk also means you'll have a freezer stocked with high-quality meat that you can rely on for weeks or even months to come. You won't have to worry about making frequent trips to the grocery store or settling for lower-quality cuts of meat.

And let's not forget the peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly where your meat is coming from. When you buy wholesale grass-fed beef directly from your farmer, you can trust that it was raised in the most sustainable and ethical way possible. You'll have a direct connection to the source of your food, and you can feel good about supporting local agriculture.

Sure, you may be tempted to save a few dollars by buying cheap meat at the grocery store. But over time, the additives and irradiation used in those meats can have negative impacts on your health - not to mention the toll it takes on the environment.

Investing in bulk grass-fed beef is an investment in your health, your community, and the planet. So why not make the smart choice and buy in bulk today?
